Welcome/Welkom

This blog is about my friend Jeanne and me. I met Jeanne on the internet years ago and since have kept contact with her through emails and common interests. A few years ago I was lucky enough to meet with Jeanne in person and it has made our friendship closer. Recently Jeanne bought herself a camera and we decided to create this blog and share some of our photos and hobbies.

You will notice this blog is in both English and Dutch.

The Digging Has Begun

Yes they finally started digging the hole for where our new 'house' will be build.  But first we have to do some more work to get it all ready.

We first have to unscrew the planks of our deck so we can remove the frame.

Leo hard at work removing the frame for the deck.  More work than we thought it would be of course.

All planks removed and also the joists, just the outside left.

Had to remove some long planks which means we had to fill them in again for now to make the deck safe for use until Leo has time to build it proper again.

Cleaned up the stuff underneath the deck, took away some of the posts now we just have the planks left which are attached to our cabin and some more post and such.  Still more work before they can start to dig.

We build some safety gates at the end as well.  You never know what I may do when I sleep walk!

This is the other side where we build the safety gate.  Notice how it all looks nice and clean!

Here comes the digger.  And a digger it is.  The machine is huge!!!

But before he can start we first have to mark off the area which needs to be removed.  All this is happening while it is raining off and on.

Yes the machine is big I can not even get it all in the picture.  Here it is coming coming down our driveway.

What???  You want me to drive that machine?  A picture of Leo with my sou'wester standing near the machine for size comparison.

The beginning!!! The first couple of digs are the hardest, right!

And here is Jason, our contractor, giving a helping hand.

Not like the old days to measure the depth of how far we have to go.  Just bring out the laser equipment and away we go.

A bit of discussion on what to do next and how much deeper.  All very technical as you can see.

You think we have enough roots?  Hope this will not bring us any problems in the future.

A little more to dig, actually we have not done half of it yet.

I'll wait for the boss to tell me what to do next.

And then the rain came.  Or was it hail?  Or both?  Yes the rain really came down at this point and we all had to find a dry spot for a moment.

As you can see the rain made it all a big mud puddle but more work had to be done so on they went.

Careful now otherwise you might hit our waterline.  I was very impressed with the care they took digging around our waterline.  Jason said that they would have to do the rest by hand just to make sure they would not dig up our line.

The sun came out again and made it all look better.  Just some finishing touches left to do.

All done!!!  Just load the digger back on the truck again and they are done digging the hole.  This gives you another look at how big the digger was compared to our car and utility trailer.  Pretty big.  All the digging was done in about an hour.  Not bad considering they had to stop because of the rain for a short while.

After they all left I went out to photograph my tomatoes and without knowing I guess I scared our female skunk and she sprayed ME.  I did not realize I got sprayed until I went back inside and the smell went with me.  What a stink!!!  Had to take off all my clothes, showered and I still could smell it.  The whole house smells like skunk now.  Hope this will go away soon but I know from experience with our dogs that the smell will 'hang around' for a long time.

The builders are suppose to come back today but it rained all night and it is still raining off and on.  I don't think they can do anything today but then I did not think they would come yesterday either.  So you never know.

Foto's wandeling op Zondag

Deze wandelaars zaten uit te rusten.

Een afscheiding gemaakt van dikke, gevlochten
takken. De natuur vult 'm zelf in.

En ja hoor, prachtige wilde bloemen ervoor.

In de verte toch iets van industrie.
Geplette auto's op een hoop.

Gauw doorlopen, hier begint de vrije natuur.

Men heeft in dit gebied wilde paarden uitgezet.
Voedsel en water vinden ze hier voldoende.
Zie het veulen liggen. Wat een prachtige
halslijn.

Dichterbij en in de verte wilde koeien.
Goed kijken. Zijn hoofd zit vol ongedierte,
maar hij of zij blijft rustig liggen.

Ook bij de koeien een jong!

Heerlijk grazen, zonder gestoord te worden

En natuurlijk een kijkje omhoog!

avond foto's

De avondlucht blijft boeien.

wandel foto's

Bijna dagelijks wandelen we, mijn
bovenbuurtjes Hetty en Will en ikzelf,
over diverse paden in en rondom
Engelen. het Vutterpad is een route,
vandaar een paar kiekjes.

Over het afvoerkanaaltje  en hier is
 het begin van het pad.

Er staan langs het pad
prachtige hoge bomen.

Nog even terug kijken, nu volop zon.

Verder gaat het pad!

                                   Ja,daar liepen we net.

Ik heb een nieuwe "die" oftewel een mal
die gelukkig ook te gebruiken is in
de cuttlebug. Het is even uitproberen
maar het resultaat zint me wel!

Cow Parsnip - Berenklauw

What does a person do when she is sitting on her deck enjoying the nice weather and a camera in front of her waiting to take pictures of the baby skunks?  Get bored!  So I started to take pictures of the cow parsnip (berenklauw) which grows around our deck.  This year they are really big and the flowers are fantastic.

Here a few shots of the flowers and plant from different angles.  These are not all the same plant but we have so many growing here that I had a choice on which ones to use.

One cluster of flowers taken from the top.

A full cluster of flowers.

Close up of the flowers ( this is also my picture for the July 1 theme - half)

Again the cluster of flowers taken from the side this time.

One cluster from the side

At this point I started experimenting with my pictures and started taking the pictures from below shooting towards the sky. As you can see the main flower is made of small flowers which gives it the fractal appearance.

This one is my favourite with the few leaves in it and the way the sky come through.

How one plant can give you so many photos!!!
