Welcome/Welkom

This blog is about my friend Jeanne and me. I met Jeanne on the internet years ago and since have kept contact with her through emails and common interests. A few years ago I was lucky enough to meet with Jeanne in person and it has made our friendship closer. Recently Jeanne bought herself a camera and we decided to create this blog and share some of our photos and hobbies.

You will notice this blog is in both English and Dutch.

Now our struggle with the stairs

Moving right along.  It is now Wednesday and all that is left to do for the first story is the stairs and closing in the ceiling/floor.  Unfortunately it rained that morning so the carpenters could not work during the heavy rain and were hiding in their work trailer until I called them and told them they could be doing this . . .

Drink coffee and watch Leo's videos of the construction.
But luckily the rain stopped and they were able to continue making the stairs and putting them in.  While one was working on the stairs the other 2 were putting in the plywood flooring.

Just a few steps left and the stairs are ready to put.

The last finishing touches and let's try it . .  .

They are up but not in.  See where the hole is?  Normally this would work. Line up the stairs and then just place them in the hole.  But unfortunately there were a lot of sheets of plywood stacked near the opening of the stairs so they were in the way of doing the easy slide in method.

We will have to try to twist and turn the stairs I guess.

Still no luck.  They are just too big somehow.

Let's try taking out some steps.  Actually they just had to take out one step.

It worked!  Now we have to attach it to the top and bottom, re-install the one step and we have stairs going to the second story.

Yes it works!

This is Leo's rain skirt.  The tin on the roof had to be cut back some more exposing the ceiling or our current house.  With the rainfall we ran the risk of water getting in so Leo created this fancy skirting to keep our ceiling dry.  It worked!

This gives you a picture on how much rain fell that morning.

This picture is taking through the new stairs looking at our entry door or North.

This is a shot taken from the bottom of the stairs looking towards the picture window or South.

Now they have to work on our second story walls, ceiling and roof.  Because the roof is somewhat complicated they first have to do some thinking and drawing of plans.
The carpenters left in the afternoon on Wednesday and won't be back until Monday or Tuesday.   We had a very quiet Thursday with no hammering or sawing going on.  It was a beautiful sunny day so we enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the quietness.  We did have the delivery of our windows so they are ready to be installed as well.
On Friday Jason came back to do the backfill around the house.  But the backfill was so wet that he had to stop and leave it for Monday in the hope it would dry up some more.
Tomorrow I will post some more pictures of the window delivery and the little bit of backfilling that was done.  See you then!
